Abstract: This tutorial document explains how to build Ptolemy II models using Vergil, the Ptolemy II graphical environment. Graphical entry of models is only one of several possible entry mechanisms available in Ptolemy II. For example, you can define models in Java or in XML, or (somewhat more experimentally) in the actor language Cal. Moreover, only some of the available models of computation are described here. A major emphasis of Ptolemy II is to provide a framework for experimentation with design techniques, so the specific modeling and design tools described here should be viewed as representative of our efforts, not as comprehensive. Please see the Ptolemy II documentation for a more complete picture.
